Premiere: Go Coastal With
Weeknight’s “California”

It’s been a long winter here in New York, but being cooped up inside doesn’t mean a Netflix binge that lasts three months, at least if you’re Brooklyn duo Weeknight. (For the rest of us, that’s a different story.) On the heels of last year’s debut album Post-Everything, the synth-pop act is prepping the In The Dust cassingle. From the upcoming release, here’s “California,” a cozy, sultry escape from the still-chilly temperatures. Andy Simmons’ and Holly MacGibbon’s vocals melt into each other and into their warm synth landscape, balanced out by crisp, programmed percussion. It’s a winning sound that’s sure to appeal to fans of Small Black and Anoraak.

“I think human nature makes us afraid to accept the darkest part of ourselves,” Weeknight tells us via email. “‘California’ is our version of this fear–one that was born out of winter isolation and dreams of the desert.”

Listen to “California” and preorder the cassette here. In The Dust is out April 21 on Dead Stare Records.
