Sabine Mirlesse

by: Giovanna Badilla

The remarkable young photographer Sabine Mirlesse has this gorgeous, dreamy and cinematic feel in her images that we absolutely fell in love with, that’s why she was asked her to show her story ‘Going home/dust/ashes‘ in the portfolio section of the WILD.

Sabine Mirlesse grew up between Los Angeles, California and New Haven, Connecticut in the United States. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies and English Literature from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, and additionally studied for one year at the Universiteit van Amsterdam in the Netherlands. She is a recent graduate of the Master of Fine Arts in Photography and Related Media program at Parsons the New School for Design in New York City, through which she was given the opportunity this past spring to travel to Marseille, France to study with photographer Antoine D’Agata. In 2009 Sabine was nominated for World Press Photo’s annual Joop Swart Masterclass. She has recently received press on her series entitled ‘Going home/dust/ashes’ including features in Burn Magazine curated by Magnum Agency photographer David Alan Harvey and Beijing-based art and culture magazine Vision. Sabine writes for WhiteHot Contemporary Art among other journals and has conducted interviews with several established contemporary artists including Shirin Neshat, Alessandra Sanguinetti, and Lise Sarfati, and former LACMA curator and head of photography Charlotte Cotton. Just recently, Sabine was nominated for the second time for World Press Photo’s Joop Swart Masterclass 2011. She is currently living and working in Iceland.
