WILD PROFILE: SHANNON WALKER ON FILM, FOODIES, AND GENTLEMAN JACK

by: Diana Cenat

Who: Shannon Walker
Where: New York City
What she does: Co-creator of the LES Film Festival, Writer, and Actress

What’s on your mind today? Candy.

What are you currently working on? Everything related to the LES Film Festival, and a sexy screenplay about a 20-something female who blackmails her philandering boss.

What do you think there is too much of, and too little of? There is too much use of the expression “no worries.” I hate it. I wasn’t worried, thank you… There is too little use of the expression “son of a bitch.”

With whom would you like most to go on a “tête à tête”? John Waters

With whom would you like to run a country? It’d be me and Hillary Clinton. She brings the know-how, and I bring my extensive belt collection.

What is your most striking moment? I was in a play in college. It was Theatre In The Round and you could always see some of the audience members faces. I was the first person on stage every night and I’d give this monologue about Boston that lasted a few minutes. I don’t think Boston deserves any monologues, but anywho… My father, a pretty stern and stoic individual, was in the audience one night, and I could see him from the stage just beaming. Grinning ear to ear. I assumed he was smiling because of me, and I thought, “Ok cool. Dad likes me.”

What’s your earliest memory? Falling out of my mom’s station wagon onto the road (the car wasn’t moving that fast so I was ok), seeing a big truck coming towards me, and knowing I had to move out of the way or I’d be dead. I was 4. Not surprising this is my first memory, huh?!?!

What does independent film mean to you? Problem solving.

What kind of movement would you like to start? An anti-Foodie movement. We wrangle up all the folks that call themselves “Foodies” and dump buckets of water on them. I mean, come on, everyone likes food, most people prefer good food vs. bad food, everyone can agree on butter, so what does that mean exactly? To be a “foodie.” So obnoxious.

Who represents your « artistic » family? My partners Damon Cardasis, Roxy Hunt, Tony Castle, my books, my movies, my music, and my MacBook. In no particular order.

With whom would you like to grow old? A good looking black lab and a bottomless barrel of Gentleman Jack.

You’re forced to watch one movie for the rest of your life. Which one do you choose? Step Brothers.

What is your WILD Wish? To have employees.
