WILD Profile: Eliza Swann

Who: Eliza Swann
Where she was born: New York, NY
Where she lives now: Los Angeles
What she does: Painting, videos, teaching, clairvoyant and tarot healing sessions, The Golden Dome School

If she was a sound, that sound would probably be:

A bell.

A record that changed the way she hears music:

I had a 7” of The Teardrop Explodes’ “Colours Fly Away” with “Shopping For a Crown of Thorns” on the B-side – my Dad must have given it to me. I was exposed to the visionary capacity of music from listening to it on heavy rotation as an 8 year old. I played their song “The Great Dominions” this morning and felt a profound shift.

What she is watching and reading:
I’ve been watching David Attenborough’s 80’s series “The Living Planet” – the soundtrack is gorgeous! I’m reading “The Secret Source” by Maja D’Aoust and Adam Parfrey and “I Seem To Be A Verb” by Buckminster Fuller at the same time.

Where she goes to be alone:
I go to Griffith Park at dusk to gather sage and see coyotes, hawks, and owls – I guess that’s not “alone”!

What she is currently working on:

A book about Tarot healing, a series of paintings based on some recent vision quests, and a dance adaptation of Ursula LeGuin’s “The Left Hand of Darkness”.

What she thinks there is too much of, and too little of:

Too much patriarchy, too little grace.

Her earliest memory:

From this life? Birth. It was difficult and painful. I remember the indignity of being put in an incubator. However – I am very happy to be here on Earth! Struggle is a great catalyst for joy.

What she’s been up to lately:

Ive been painting quietly in my yard and swimming a lot at Point Dume where you can see dolphins leaping out of the breakers further out to sea. I organized a nomadic school called The Golden Dome that focuses on the triangulation between art, mysticism, and science – I’ve been getting the first two seasons off the ground. My art/life friend Laura Zuspan (who is my collaborative partner on the Summer season) and I are working on an exhibition of our artwork and the work produced by Golden Dome students that will debut at Krowswork gallery on August 1st.

Who represents her artistic “family”:

I adore too many people in the visionary lineage to list but lately I’ve been falling into Hilma Af Klint, Emma Kunz, and the writing of Rene Daumal with my whole heart. I called Linda Montano on the phone the other day – her voice reminded me to remain a clear channel for divine inspiration whenever possible.

Her WILD Wish:

A rapid acceleration of expanding compassion within all beings.
