Denai Moore, Flaws Just Like You

Who: Denai Moore
Where she was born: Jamaica
Where she lives now: London Town!
What she does: I write songs and drink tea.

Denai Moore

What she is currently working on:
I’m just always writing music, right now I’m having such a good run and working on the artwork for my debut EP.

Which she most prefers: experimenting, songwriting, or performing?
The songwriting process can be really intense for me, cause I’m my biggest critic.. So I’d probably say performing, It’s the most amazing feeling sharing your music with people.

What good energy means to her:
Sounds so cliché but good energy to me means when you surround yourself with people you love and they love you back!

What she thinks there is too much of, and too little of:
I think there are too many reality TV shows these days! Even though I was a massive fan of The Hills. I’d say there’s too little Food Network fans, I don’t know anyone else That watches it outside of my house.

With whom she would like most to go on a tête à tête:
Probably Lauryn Hill, and I’d ask her why haven’t we gotten a second album yet!

Her most striking moment:
I think meeting Clare Maguire at an open mic playing completely unplugged was the highlight of my 2012. Its so weird that the first place I play in months is where I’d meet her. She really encouraged me to get my music out there and to not compromise with whatever I want from my music career. We’re pretty good friends now. Also being recognised at a gig I was going to, I’ve never felt so fancy in my life.

On her life-to-do list:
Does John Mayer count? Hahaa

What cracks her up:
Twitter banter, I love it when everyone is watching the same show, and we all rant in harmony.

The first record she bought with her own money:
This sounds so lame but I’m pretty sure It was Kelly Clarkson’ album Breakaway… I feel like no one likes to admit that they love her, when we used to headbang to “Since You’ve Been Gone!”

Heavy rotation in her headphones:
Everything Everything’s new album Arc. Best thing I’ve heard in a while.

Elvis or Beatles person:
The Beatles for sure! “Blackbird” is on my list of songs I wish I had written!

Her favorite person in the world:
My does my guitar count? I don’t know maybe Obama… He just seems like such a guy!

Her next challenge:
My next challenge is to write a lot more on the piano!

Denai’s WILD Wish:
I’ve always wanted to collaborate with James Blake/Bon Iver… or just thank Feist for being alive.
