We Missed You Missy

by: Abernathy Miller

After what seems like an eternity, hip-hop’s original WILD woman, Missy Elliott is back on the music scene with not one, but two new singles.

The hip-hop heavy weight has finally returned to show some of the sub-par lady hip-hop acts how it’s done. “Newcomers better sit back and take note,” Nicki Minaj, she’s talking to you, get a pen.

“9th Inning” and “Triple Threat” seem to state Missy knows she’s been out of the game for a bit too long, but is back to blow are socks off. Missy even brought long-time collaborator Timbaland on for the ride as expected.

“9th Inning” is almost completely dedicated to singing the praises of both Missy and Timbaland, as it’s a list of their accolades and a “come and get some” invite to the new players in the rap game. “I’ll make the next chick run to the exist/Now tell me who the best is”

But with the recent direction of hip-hop, will Missy and Timbaland’s more old-school sound make it to the dance floors? Neither track is “pop-lock and drop” friendly (Triple Threat even has a string section, and 9th Inning has a piano hook)

Either way, the rest of the rap game better watch out  because “they can smell bullshit when it walks by.”

Welcome back Missy… we can’t wait to get our freak on with you!
