VPL Spring 2013 Show Review
September 9, 2012
For VPL, undergarments will always be on show. Such was the case in Victoria Bartlett’s Spring 2013 show, where a refreshing summer palette of mint green, vivid orange and tame neutrals stalked the runway. If you are looking for easy separates to take you from brunch to downtown street party, than this collection is your best bet. Billowing, racerback dresses were matched with tribal-inspired necklaces and multicolored drawstrings, and tailored cigarette and harem pants made choosing new outfits for next summer a lot easier. Inspired by human kinesiology (the study of human movement), and musculature, VPL also drew on the imagery of sports. Indeed, athleticism was a major component in the collection. From the aforementioned racer backs and knee high socks (hockey, anyone?), to voluminous flack jackets in translucent plastic, Bartlett successfully married sportswear with the more delicate fabrics that VPL’s beloved undergarments are known for.
