Video Premiere – Sigur Rós / Varúd (directed by Ryan McGinley)

by: Joseph Isho Levinson

In honor and in awe of Sigur Rós‘ last night’s concert at Prospect Park’s Bandshell in Brooklyn, we are delighted to introduce the just released new video Ryan McGinley has directed for the band. The video of the song Varúd from the album Valtari feautures a young gleamy haired girl skipping freely through the streets of NYC.

In the director’s words: “This piece is my poem to New York City. I wanted to bring a childhood innocence to the streets, through a character whose own light and wonder effects the world around her. I’m always interested in an atmosphere where dreams and reality mingle on equal terms.”

This is not his first collaboration with Sigur Ros. McGinley had previously shot the cover for the band’s album Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust, featuring naked young people in motion, a common theme in his photography work.
