PFW // Catherine Baba X Nouvelle Affaire Capsule Collection

by: Marine de la Morandière

With the opening of their new space 5, rue Debelleyme in the Marais area in Paris, Pascal Humbert and Catherine Traoré introduced their collaboration with iconic fashion figure, Catherine Baba. The Paris-based stylist worked on a capsule collection with the duo, playing around with their concept of the uniform. The boutique was transformed in a forest wonderland with the ceiling covered in pink paper decoupages.

The micro clothing line for summer 2013 consisted in five looks going from a T-shirt dress to a custom-made silk peignoir dress. With only five silhouettes, the collection manages to capture Catherine Baba’s unique personality with each piece. An inspiration to many designers with her trademark vintage allure, Catherine Baba is an essential figure of Paris fashion week, many a time immortalized by one of Scott Schuman’s shots of her cycling in the city, clad in couture and heels.

Many of her renowned friends turned up at the intimate cocktail. Amongst the guests were Mario Testino, Fifi Chachnil, Hamish Bowles, Yaz Bukey, Lars Nilsson, Elie Top and Roland Mouret to name a few. The pieces were modeled on the likes of Bethany Vernon, Violeta Sanchez or Debra Shaw for the campaign photos.

Catherine Baba was also wearing the collection that night, stunning in a revealing silk pajama, her signature turban and oversized purple tassel earrings. The silky fabric she used for the collection was embellished with a print by LA based illustrator Gordon Flores. The playful illustrations of Catherine Baba characters surrounded by some of her best known catchwords “Divine, Darling, Fantasia, J’adoore…” made the pieces of clothing even more alive and Baba-esque!
