Norah Jones Miriam video

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Though sparse on the details, Jones has admitted that Little Broken Hearts is a semi-autobiographical breakup album — “Miriam” being one of the most explicit tracks. The new clip builds on the story from the first single, “Happy Pills,” where an aggrieved taffeta-clad lover poisons her spouse and dumps the body in a drowning black Cadillac. The disillusioned Stepford Wife seems to be a popular theme these days among our art rock generational icons (just look at these recent videos from St. Vincent and Santigold).

I know he said it’s not your fault
But I don’t believe that’s true
I’ve punished him from ear to ear
Now I’ve saved the best for you

With the disloyal man out of the picture, Jones sets her sights on the shameless temptress. Dragging a bloodied boat paddle, Jones drones:

Oh Miriam
That’s such a pretty name
And I’ll keep saying it
Until you die
