New York, New York

by: Ria de Borja

It’s the first Acne Paper dedicated to a place, and the place chosen was our favorite city: Manhattan. The magazine was launched last night at The Four Seasons and guests included Sofia Coppola, Clemence Poesy, Eric Boman, Peter Schlesinger, Simon Doonan, Oliver Theyskens, Lily Donaldson, Alana Zimmer and Jeremiah Goodman.
New Issue of Acne Paper Manhattan

“During our visits to The Big Apple, we have had the great fortune of befriending a number of people who have not only taken a keen interest in our publication but who have helped shape it through our continuous creative rapport. By weaving together their rich knowledge and individual expertise with our curiosity and our desire to learn more, we started to get a picture of Manhatttan we hadn’t seen before, not in the format of a magazine,” said Acne Paper editor-in-chief and creative director Thomas Persson.

There are 3 cover subjects – Fran Lebovitz, Richard Serra and Mikhail Baryshnikov – who are part of a portrait story shot by Brigitte Lacombe.
The magazine includes an interview with the art editor of The New Yorker Françoise Moody, an interiors story by Eric Boman, and a literature portfolio with works by Dorothy Parker, Truman Capote, Tom Wolfe, Allen Ginsberg and Woody Allen.

We’re reminded of Allen’s Manhattan. ”Chapter One: He was as tough and romantic as the city he loved. Behind his black-rimmed glasses was the coiled sexual power of a jungle cat . . . New York was his town, and it always would be,” said protagonist Isaac Davis. It’s The Wild’s town too, and that’s why we love this issue of Acne Paper.
