Premiere: Say Hello To Cody Crump’s ‘Hola’ EP
Warmer days are right around the corner, and Cody Crump has your soundtrack covered with his new EP, Hola. Across five tracks, it’s a multilingual love story set to lush, sunny production. Crump shows off a blend of organic and alien textures, all built around an effortless pop heart.
Hola is a striking statement of carefree romanticism, with its opening track’s wistful refrain of “You could be my best friend, I could be your boyfriend” mirrored on closer “Friendzone,” featuring Brooklyn DIY staple Computer Magic. In between, the L.A. artist flirts with vintage gallic pop on the appropriately-titled “French Kiss.”
“Hola was created over the period of a couple months,” Crump tells us via email. “I was very inspired by the concept of communication, specifically between different languages and cultures within our own relationships. I recorded almost everything at home, and tracked drums with my friend Jason Ganberg towards the end of the process. My friend Alexandra Lemosle provided all of the vocals in French, and my friend Danz of Computer Magic sang the female part on ‘Friendzone.’ I have a lot of love for this project, and I had a lot of fun making it.”
