MENSWEAR TRENDS 2012
by: Yevgeniya Yelkina
The runways of fashion week hosted some innovative menswear pieces for 2012. This autumn, we are sure to see luxurious fabrics, in very masculine shapes. A macho male who appreciates fine luxury – what a paradox, the ultimate power whore.
Unmistakably, there was a focus on suits. With a revival of the double-breasted jacket, designers like Mugler lead the way in unconventional innovation. Attention to detail and fit were key. Fabrics like velvet and satin redefined the timeless uniform. Sports jackets in boxy shapes with a James Bond swagger dominated in Milan. The shiny suits from Jil Sander set the standard for the classic man’s suit. In addition however, there was Louis Vuitton, which showed a peppier, more refined version of the male uniform.

Leather was also repeatedly used in shows like YSL, which debuted a collection called “Sex and Money.” Lanvin and Hermes also took a stab at the trend, with gorgeous leather trenches. And who could forget the sweaters? Everyone from Burberry, to Alexander Wang showed their version of the perfect sweater. From argyle prints, to turtle necks, knitwear was just as much prevalent for men this season, as it has been for women this year.

Take it from the men ladies, simple elegance never goes out of style.
