Marika Hackman interview WILD music

What she’s been up to lately:
Just finished a tour with Johnny Flynn. Arrived home and have been lounging around demanding wine from anyone who gets in my path.

What good energy means to her:
That’s quite a broad term. I suppose if I was going to describe someone as having ‘good energy’ (this is something I would never do), then they would be accepting of others and tolerant of people.

If she were a sound, that sound would probably be:
A good footstep. Not too clacky like a teacher, but not a shuffle.

The best and the worst things she’s seen this week:
I saw two people doing a perfect high five on the tube the other day. That was satisfying. Then they tried again, failed, and ruined a wonderful moment. Best and worst within 10 seconds of each other.

A record that changed the way she hears music:
I don’t think that’s ever happened to me. I think life has made me hear music differently, but I’ve never had a record do that.

Heavy rotation:
Edith Frost’s “Temporary Loan.” A friend recently introduced me to her stuff and now I’m obsessed.

What she is watching and reading:
I’ve just finished a book called The Rebel Angels by Robertson Davies. Now I’m starting the next one in the trilogy, it’s called What’s Bred in the Bone. Before I do that I’m going to watch Airplane again.

Where she goes to be alone:
I walk. No one bothers you if you look like you’re walking with purpose.

Style icon:
Anyone who can walk out of the front door without looking in a mirror and not give a shit.

Her idea of love:
Something that cannot be narrowed down into the answer of a questionnaire.

And happiness:
Those times where you’re alone and a completely unprompted wave of joy hits you. That, and clean sheets.

What’s next:
Lots of writing and fun things like music videos. Like I said earlier though, Airplane first.

Marika’s WILD Wish:
To be an inch and a half taller. If I wear heels I walk like a sloth so it would be nice to have some natural added height.
