WILD Profile: LIZ, Mad Decent’s Pop Princess
by: Michelle Chung
November 1, 2013
Where she was born: Los Angeles (the Valley)
Where she lives now: still there!
What she does: Recording artist
What she’s been up to lately:
Been working on a ton of new music, and at the moment, on the road opening for Charli XCX on select dates of her North American tour.
What’s on her mind today:
My main focus is just praying I don’t get sick over the next few weeks. I’m sitting on a plane right now, trying not to breathe the air in too deeply.
What she’s currently working on:
I’m wrapping up an EP and in the thick of making my album for next year.
What good energy means to her:
I like to surround myself with people who are positive and confident and secure enough to be supportive of others.
What she considers a fashion faux-pas:
Letting clothes wear you, rather than wearing them.
What cracks her up:
Funny voices…my best friend does the best chipmunk voice and it gets me every time (especially when she sings in it.) A dream of mine is for one of my songs to be covered in an Alvin and the Chipmunks movie.
If she was a sound, that sound would probably be:
Jiggly puff’s lullaby.
What she thinks there is too much of, and too little of:
Too many animals neglected and not enough people to take care of them. : (
What movement she would like to start:
I’d like to be a part of a new generation of tastemakers/curators in pop music today. I want to be an artist who can blur those lines between the underground and mainstream worlds in an authentic way, and turn people onto things they may not have known about otherwise.
The first record she bought with her own money:
It was either Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette or Pieces Of You by Jewel.
3LW or Ashanti Pandora stations.
Where she goes to be alone:
I can be alone anywhere. It’s a matter if your state of mind. Sometimes, I’m in a room full of people, yet deep in thought, off in my own world. But yeah….if I just want pure silence or to zone out with no interruptions, I’ll go to my room and watch a movie or go on a drive to Malibu or something.
With whom she would like most to go on a tête à tête:
Whom she considers a style icon:
Her idea of love:
Feeling so content and like someone constantly and unconditionally has your back. It’s pretty great when you can just hang with someone and don’t have to speak, yet you’re completely on the same wave length. Love is also about bringing out the best and worst in the other person and being brutally honest with one another so you can facilitate each others growth for the better.
I’m not quite sure what true happiness is…I’m still figuring that out. But, I try to take each day as it comes, to be grateful, and to enjoy life in the moment.
Liz’s WILD Wish:
In no particular order: to jam with David Bowie, have a cartoon and children’s book series, marry Drake, run an animal rescue sanctuary on a huge compound, have a number one record ; )
