Genetic Denim Wants You to “Be You”
The brand Genetic Denim has always focused [...]
Following right on the heels of an exceptional Spring 2013 show at London Fashion Week, Mary Katrantzou has announced a new, exciting endeavor for her burgeoning fashion line.
Katrantzou has already collaborated to great success with Topshop and Longchamp, but unless you happened to be in Great Britain at the time, the coveted creations were sadly just out of reach. But now, preview images have just been released of the new collaboration line between Katrantzou and LA-based denim designer Current/Elliott.
Katrantzou approached Current/Elliot’s creative director Serge Azria earlier this year to discuss a way to translate her clothing and vivid, collage-inspired prints into more casual, widely distributed, and affordable pieces for her younger fans. Katrantzou said, “We thought denim would be a great challenge…We wanted it to feel very different to what we usually do.”
The capsule collections of jean pieces, including tshirts, shift dresses, and printed skinnies, are set to be launched in mid-February with a much more reasonable price tag than Katrantzou’s one-of-a-kind high-end designs, ranging from around $200 up to $530. For this partnership, Katrantzou has introduced her haute couture sensibilities and immaculate eye for construction into the world of denim, crafting a variety of incredibly wearable and simple, but never simplistic, pieces that girls across America will be fighting each other for this winter.
