Syron, Oh My

Daisy Tullulah Syron-Russell is a Nike Air Max-clad 19 year-old hailing from South London — Peckham to be exact. Though we are fond of the name Daisy, Syron is probably a better fit for her sometimes funky sometimes smooth 90s vibe. This up-and-coming pop songstress has already caught the attention of influential Brit tastemakers and producers, so we figured a proper U.S. introduction was due.

What have you been up to lately?

I’ve been in the studio a lot, working on making as much music as possible so when it gets to album time I have lots of music. I’ve also done a few gigs recently which are always fun.

We discovered you last year on Rudimental’s “Spoons.” How did that collaboration come about?

I was working in the studio next door to MNEK, and had already been working with him. He’d been in the studio with Rudimental, written that song, then I was asked to sing on it. Straight away it worked out well, so we went from there.

Take us behind the scenes of your new video, “Here.”

The video for “Here” was a real party with all my friends, we showed the morning after the party and the party. The song is about still being there for everyone I know regardless of having to work hard etc. So it was great that all my best friends, my sister, boyfriend, and loads of friends i hadn’t seen for a while where all in the video.

What goes through your head every time you put a new piece of art our into the world?

I’m always exited, I would never put something out that i wasn’t 100% happy with so that makes it all less nerve wracking. But I always hope everyone else will like it just as much.

Which do you most prefer: experimenting, songwriting, or performing?

I think that during songwriting and performing I’m always experimenting. I’m new to both, so to get better and learn more I have to try new things and experiment throughout. But my favourite would have to be performing. I adore performing.

Who are some of your favorite producers to work with?

TCTS is someone I’ve worked with quite a bit for the album, and he’s great and i’m always into everything he makes.

Great Skies has been fantastic to work with too; his productions are always so pretty, and I always look forward to hearing them back.

What does good energy mean to you?

Good energy is surrounding yourself with people you love or work well with. Being happy and doing everything you can to the best of your ability. And remembering that Karma comes back around.

What is the first record you bought with your own money?

Tweet “Opps Oh My” – I was 9 or 10 in 2002, and that was one of the first singles I remember buying.

Who do you consider a style icon?

Edie Sedgewick is one of my all time style icons.

Who is your favorite person in the world?

My little sister Evie. And about three or four other people, they know who they are.

What is your next challenge?

Finishing the album and getting it released, and in a place where I love it.

What is your WILD Wish?

To take over the world.
