Trigger Warning: FKA twigs Witness to Capital Punishment

FKA twigs continues to antagonize popular culture in “Video Girl,” the latest concept video from her debut full-length, LP1. The utilitarian title of the album fits particularly well with this Khalil Joseph-directed clip that sees twigs as a to-be widow turn aggrieved humanoid. After serving witness to her lover’s execution, the inhumanity of state-sanctioned killing wipes away any lingering innocence. Capital punishment is banned in the U.K. and across Europe, save Belarus. It’s the U.S. that stands as one of the few remaining nations in the developed world that continues to practice the death penalty. Just this year, at least three separate botched executions have left prisoners condemned to prolonged suffering as they gasp and struggle for life.
