Matthew Stone’s Intoxicating “Armed Venus”
The new alliance between music and fashion [...]
After nearly three years in the making, and over $70,000 raised via Kickstarter (of the $25,000 asked), “Are We Not Men,” the documentary about avant-garde Ohio rockers DEVO is set to release in September.
From their inception at Kent State University in 1970 (inspired to make music after the tragic Kent State Shooting) to their most recent tour, filmmaker Tony Pemberton captures the and exposes the core of the often misunderstood and underrated new wavers in “Are We Not Men.”
Interviews from music legends, Iggy Pop, Dave Grohl, and skateboarder Tony Hawk, as well as intimate home movies and new concert footage reveals the band’s originality and artistic nature. Who knew the band was hailed by Kurt Cobain as “the most challenging and subversive band of all.” We can’t wait!
After you see this documentary, you’re going to wish you’d never thrown out that Whip-It single cassette.
