Bruce La Bruce: Play Dead

by: Robin Newman

Queer Canadian photographer and filmmaker Bruce La Bruce has teamed up with fashion company Front Row Society and the web TV site ArtStars* to create a startling new line of macabre scarves.

Known for his provocative work, La Bruce’s photos often depict naked young men, with figures occasionally splattered with blood. His films LA Zombie and Otto; or, Up With Dead People are both about zombies.

The line of scarves, called Play Dead, follows suit. The scarves are printed with photos La Bruce took, inspired by a scene from Jean Luc Godard’s film Le Weekend. The scarves are printed with gruesome, horrific images of the aftermath of car accidents. The images are disturbing and subvert the idea of pretty scarves as status symbols.

The scarves are available through Front Row Society.
