Bruce High Quality Got Wild in Industry City

“This has been such an exciting year for Bruce and the University which is now officially a non-profit. I think that this fundraising party was the perfect expression of the University’s spirit and style. The studio looked great and Bruce installed some of my favorite artworks, including The Olympia’s and significant works from the Greek and Roman series.”

Last Thursday, the Bruce High Quality Foundation brought together a group of art aficionadi to raise funds for its university. Located in the heart of Industry City, the BHQF crew flocked their guests to the 6th floor of a warehouse and welcomed them to a spacious studio, with rooms for different performances, nachos in a upside down umbrella and an open Belvedere bar. It wasn’t the typical art party: no unnecessary displays of wealth and pretentious h’orderves.

Dev Hynes, aka Blood Orange performed a live set while guests sipped on the signature Autumn Ginger Vodka cocktail. On the walls were familiar paintings. Artists such as Charline Von Heyl, Joshua Citerella, Ron Gorchov and Torey Thornton, Ebecho took what we consider to be the classics of our art lineage, scanned them and permutated the result. So the environment felt familiar, yet changed somehow. Guests were offered an opportunity to view and purchase a limited selection of works at the event.

Other performers included comedians Ana Fabrega, FAKE INJURY PARTY and DJ sets by Edan, Blazer Sound System and Max McFerren.

While the event took the shape of a party, it was for an amazing cause: to offer artists and artistically-oriented individuals to obtain a substantive art education free of charge. We invite you to look at their website for course offerings and to register for next semester. It’s free art school, that’s rare.
