Premiere: BOY Serenade the Sky in ‘New York’

Stripped down to the essentials, Valeska Steiner and Sonja Glass reveal a pure glimmer. Honeyed vocal melodies colored by sparkling finger-picked harmonies are enough to make even the gruffest of city folk weak in the knees. “Let’s go outside and let’s pretend it’s New York / Drown the small town troubles, in Hudson River puddles,” sings Steiner in “New York.” Presented as a dreamy love letter to the Big Apple, we soon find out this tune is more about a someone than a somewhere. “And the truth is, I was wrong when I said I was bored / Any street that I’m walking on with you, anywhere with you could be New York.”

The Swiss/German duo, together known as BOY, met a decade ago at music workshop in Hamburg before joining as a band a couple years later. Next month Steiner and Glass are set to release their sophomore LP, We Were Here, the title track of which recently premiered at NPR. And now BOY join The WILD to debut a very special acoustic take on “New York.”

We Were Here is out Sept 18
