Premiere: Dance Or Die With Benedikt’s ‘Vikings’
There are still a few more weeks of winter left, and Benedikt’s “Vikings” is the kind of gloomy minimal electronica that’s meant to soundtrack the rest of these cold days. The Canadian-bred, Berlin-based artist has yet to reveal much about himself, but his background in dance gets put to work in his new video, starring a man who moves as if caught in an invisible tornado. The simplicity of the clip matches the track’s haunting vocals, backed by lumbering, ominous production that’s all the more chilling for its spareness.
“I created the choreography with my dear friend Yorrith De Bakker, who is the dancer in the video,” Benedikt tells us via email. “It was improvised in the moment of filming along with some choreographic ideas to sculpt the body language. He allowed the music to speak through his body. In the end his sense of drama and talent for embodying the song shine through.”
The song is over before you know it, but luckily, more from the mysterious Benedikt is on its way soon. He’ll be releasing his debut EP Soma on April 15.
