Long-time collaborators Talib Kweli and Res are currently working together under their Idle Warship project name. With a feature on the soundtrack of RZA’s forthcoming The Man With the Iron Fists movie, the duo is getting positive recognition where it’s due.

The latest video release is for the track “Beautifully Bad,” from their 2011 debut album, Habits of the Heart. The clip, co-directed by Kweli himself, features beautifully simple cinematography. Silhouettes, shadows and natural light create a crisp, timeless look, while the color red provides a strong accent. The choreography transitions from a couple dancing harmoniously to a martial arts battle, evoking the emotions in the song’s lyrics.

Like the majority of the songs on Habits of the Heart, “Beautifully Bad” is skilfully produced by Farhot. Talib Kweli sings and raps at the beginning, but allows Res’ glorious vocals take center stage for the remainder of the piece. The delicacy of her voice, Kweli’s subdued performance and the brilliant visuals make for a great package from this highly talented twosome.
