Art Talks with Karen Lee

Who: Karen Lee
Where she’s from: Los Angeles
Where she lives now: Brooklyn
What she does: Sculpture, Photography, Drawing

Karen Lee

Her first experience with art:
Somewhere between climbing trees and napping under stained glass windows while listening to my mom in choir practice. Then later, Rothko’s White Center at LACMA.

What she thinks there too much and too little of:
Winter, sunlight.

What influences her:
The sky, gut feeling, light, shadows, things that are at once familiar and mysterious.

If she were another person, place, or thing:
Mr. Palomar.

What she’s obsessed with:
Olbers’ paradox and online shopping.

What she’s currently working on:
I usually have a few different threads going on at once that intersect and reflect each other. Lately, I’ve been working on fabric pieces that slip between 2 and 3D and also some wonky sculptures.

Karen’s WILD Wish:
To sing at Bemelmans Bar.
