The iconic profile of director Alfred Hitchcock holds a lot of weight, and not just physically. That back-lit face was the symbol of countless influential films, the innovator of camera techniques that changed the film industry, and the father of the Thriller genre. Now, thirty years after Hitchcock’s death, Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins will be layering on the make-up and stepping into the shadow to play the director in the upcoming biopic about Hitchcock, his wife, Alma Reville, and the filming of his most famous film, Psycho.
Hitchcock, directed by Sacha Gervasi, is packed with A list actors, the type that you could imagine Hitchcock himself casting. Scarlett Johansson will play the star of the film within the film, Janet Leigh, with James D’Arcy as Anthony Perkins, and Helen Miran as Hitchcock’s love interest and future wife. The movie, set to premiere in late November, has been getting a lot of Oscar buzz, especially from Hopkin’s performance. Hopefully the film takes care to capture Hitchcock’s great subtleties that made his films classic and not blow out in a Hollywood cameo overload.
