Matthew Stone’s Intoxicating “Armed Venus”
The new alliance between music and fashion [...]
Young and innovative knitwear designer, Amina Martucci, didn’t always know that knits were her calling, “I was enrolled in the wrong course. I wanted womens-wear, but I ended up in the knitwear course. I couldn’t even knit at the time, but I thought, ‘what the heck…’ ” And what a blessing for Martucci! Inspired by the mundane events of everyday life and the rich colors, well-known food, and vibrant music of African culture, Martucci creates a plethora of fun, unique pieces.
While she dreams of seeing her clothes on hipsters and friends, Martucci would love to dress soulful songstress Erykah Badu. And though each piece is bespoke, she plans to have a fully functioning online store in the near future.
One thing that sets Martucci’s brand apart is her penchant for using vegan friendly fibers. “The majority of people think that vegan clothing is bland and boring, but it’s the total opposite! I want to show that vegan fashion is fun and colorful!” She also employs unique knitting techniques like doodling pattens, distressing fabrics, and using various dying methods.
